Restaurant Review – Waffle Cafe

Intrigued by an article I read in the local newspaper about a new breakfast place in my hometown of New Rochelle, NY, I invited my lifelong friend, Joellen, to join me at the Waffle Cafe.

On a cold, crisp Saturday morning, we headed out and finally found parking after a third go round seeking a spot that wasn’t illegal. It was 10:00 am when we walked into the Waffle Café and selected a small table by the window. The interior was fun, funky and bright; even the menus were bright and quirky. We felt a good vibe from the other, mostly younger than us, patrons. We waited for someone to take our order, but that was not to be. A very nice young man who would also serve as our waiter, New Rochelle resident Christopher Hinchey, came over and advised us that we needed to order at the counter, receive an order number and then have our order delivered via a waiter. Christopher was very friendly, patient and adorable. I wouldn’t be surprised if the young ladies go to Waffle Café to see Christopher first and then get breakfast!

Joellen and I made a good choice in ordering cappuccinos as they were very tasty. I believe most of you would agree that there is nothing like a great cuppa to start breakfast off on the right note.

We then decided to share a Breakfast Overload Sandwich (Turkey sausage, egg, cheese, and hash browns) and the Old Fashioned Waffle (plain waffle with powdered sugar). The Breakfast Overload Sandwich came on a waffle — what joy! The egg was cooked exactly as we requested, and the waffle was served with syrup that tasted like the REAL DEAL….no skimping on the good stuff. One of my biggest pet peeves is being served a blob of something yellow that resembles butter or margarine, so I give them two thumbs up for providing REAL butter pats!

Our bill was extremely reasonable at only $21. Except for driving around three times for a parking spot, our visit to the Waffle Café earned an A+. Heads up: arrive early if you plan on dining there, because by the time we left, people were waiting outside the door! We ran into a New Rochelle police officer I happen to know, and he said the Waffle Café had become the police officers’ new go-to place for breakfast and lunch. That alone told me the Waffle Café is the new cool place to be!
